Common Bed Bug

Bed bugs- are flat, reddish-brown, oval insects up to 4 to 5 mm long or the size of an apple seed. Swollen and reddish after a blood meal. Bed bugs only feed on blood. Under cool conditions, bed bugs have been able to survive up to a year without a meal. They prefer to be more active at night when the host is asleep.
Bed bugs are found in cracks and crevices, including mattress and seem, sheets, furniture, behind baseboards, electrical outlet plates and picture frames. Often found in hotels, where they can travel from room to room and in visitors’ luggage or other personal belongings such as purses and briefcases.

PREP AREA TO BE TREATED:

Reduce clutter to make bed bug inspection easier. Be careful when removing items from the infested area to other areas because you may transfer the bed bugs.
Since infested garments and bed linen can't be treated with insecticide they will need to be laundered in hot water. If washing is not available, sometimes heating the garments or bed linens for several minutes in clothes dryer may work. (50 degrees Celsius minimum)
Thoroughly clean the infested rooms. Scrub infested surfaces with a stiff brush to dislodge eggs.
Vacuum areas of bed bug infestation with a vacuum attachment. Vacuum along baseboards, furniture, bed stands, rails, headboards, foot boards, bed seams, tufts, buttons, edges of the bedding, as well as the edges of the carpets (particularly along the tack strips). A good vacuum cleaning job may remove particles from cracks and crevices to encourage greater insecticide penetration. Bed bugs cling tightly to surfaces, so it is best to repeat vacuuming by scraping the end of the vacuum attachment over the infested areas to pull out the bed bugs. It is not good to use a bristle attachment, because you may transfer bed bugs to other areas since they cling to the brush. Dispose of vacuum cleaner bags after you are finished.

Pre Treatment Inspection

Bed bugs are sneaky and hard to find, we are trained to pinpoint evidence if they are around. On the first visit, we will examine your entire home including the bed, furniture, rugs, and linens. We will conduct an inspection of target areas, and if required, use tools to check cracks and crevices.
We will usually start in the bedroom and work our way through your home, concentrating on the furniture and the areas immediately surrounding the furniture. We will look for signs of bed bugs including:
 Live or dead bed bugs
Skins cast off during the molting process
Small spots of reddish-black fecal material
Tiny cream-colored eggs usually found in dark crevices
Upon completion of the inspection and an assessment of the situation, we will recommend the best course of action. If the inspection confirms an infestation, we will recommend a treatment plan based on the severity of the infestation and your preferences. We will use the best tools and science to address the causes and treat your bed bug problem in the best way for your family, pets, and the environment. This implementation method targets bed bugs as well as the bed bug larvae — preventing them from maturing into breeding, biting, and potentially disease-carrying adults.

Treatment
 
Put simply, we will use an insecticide for residual on bed frames, baseboards, etc. as well as an insecticide dust for application to areas where bed bugs hide but where sprays do not reach. If the mattress and or box springs are infested, you may want to consider Bed Bug Encasements for mattress, once covered with these encasements; bed bugs cannot enter or exit. There is no need to treat the mattress or box spring when using these encasements. Keep them on for a year.
Professional treatments can take one to four visits to eradicate the problem. Because early detection is so critical, we can come back periodically to monitor your home and help prevent an infestation.
